Delaware football fun fast facts
- Fightin’ Blue Hens running back Omar Cuff is an early candidate for the Walter Payton Award as the finest offensive player in NCAA Division I-AA.
- UD has produced numerous National Football League players, including defensive back Mike Adams (who has spent the last two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers), and one NFL Most Valuable Player. That was quarterback Rich Gannon, who accomplished the feat while guiding the Oakland Raiders to the Super Bowl in 2002.
- Former UD teammates Matt Nagy and Jamin Elliott are members of the 2006 Georgia Force in the Arena Football League, and lineman Joe Minucci of the Nashville Kats was named to the league’s midseason all-star team.
- UD Head Coach K.C. Keeler, himself a former Blue Hen linebacker, succeeded three consecutive College Football Hall of Fame coaches at the helm. They are Bill Murray, Dave Nelson and Tubby Raymond.
- UD ranked No. 2 among Division I-AA teams in average attendance at Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium in 2005, drawing 22,177 fans per game.
- UD has won six national championships, capturing wire service small college titles in 1946, 1963, 1971 and 1972, the NCAA Division II title in 1979 and the NCAA Division I-AA title in 2003.
