Awards of Excellence presented to three B&E alumni

The Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics has honored three of its graduates with the college’s 2005 Alumni Awards of Excellence.

Nicholas M. Marsini Jr., a 1977 accounting graduate, Matthew C. Minker III, a 2001 master of business administration graduate, and Vincent A. Schiavi, a 1975 accounting graduate, were presented the awards at a ceremony during Homecoming weekend.

The annual Alumni Awards of Excellence were established in 1991 to honor graduates of the college who have exhibited exceptional accomplishments in their contributions to their professions and to the community.

Marsini is executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of PFPC Worldwide, a member of the PNC Financial Services Group, where he is responsible for all financial functions and support services for PFPC operations. He also is chairman of PFPC Trust Co. and chairman and president of PFPC Trustee and Custodial Services in Dublin, Ireland.

Marsini is a member of the Financial Executives Institute and is active in numerous community organizations. In addition to his bachelor’s degree from UD, he earned a master of business administration degree from Widener University. He and his wife, Julia, live in Centerville, Del., with their two sons.

Minker is owner and president of Minker Construction, which has been recognized by Inc. Magazine for its fast-paced growth. He also is president and majority owner of two minor league baseball teams—the Wilmington (Del.) Blue Rocks, a Boston Red Sox affiliate, and the Omaha Royals, a Kansas City affiliate. The Blue Rocks won the Carolina League Championship in 1994, 1996, 1998 and 1999. Minker serves on the boards and executive committees of several baseball organizations. He earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering at UD in 1968. He has two adult children and three grandchildren and lives in Wilmington with his wife, Carol.

Schiavi is the founder and president of Schiavi & Co., Delaware’s first fee-only financial planning firm, which currently has assets of more than $150 million. He has been recognized by Worth Magazine, Mutual Funds Magazine, the Delaware Department of Justice Securities Division and Bloomberg Wealth Manager Magazine as a top financial adviser and wealth manager.

Schiavi is a certified financial planner and a member of numerous professional and community organizations. He and his wife, Mary Ann, live in Wilmington, Del., with their three children.
