Class of ’64 couple outstanding alumni

Harold D. Smith II, BE ’64, and his wife, Barbara K., CHEP ’64, received UD’s outstanding alumni award during the Homecoming football game Oct. 2.

The Smiths, of Middletown, Del., were honored during the halftime break in the UD Fightin’ Blue Hens vs. University of Maine football game in Delaware Stadium. The award ceremony was among the highlights of this year’s Homecoming weekend.

Harold Smith graduated with a business degree in accounting while Barbara Smith earned a degree in human resources. Their two daughters, Wendy Shetzler, CHEP ’93, and Heather Trabaudo, CHNS ’89, their son, Scott, CHNS ’91, and his wife, Maria, CHNS ’96, are all UD alumni.

Harold Smith lettered in baseball while an undergraduate and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. In 1998, he received the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics Alumni Award of Excellence. He has served as a member of the athletics steering committee for the Campaign for Delaware since its inception in 1998.

The Smiths are avid Fightin’ Blue Hens fans and loyal Delaware Diamonds. They have created the Harold & Barbara Smith and Family Baseball Scholarship, awarded annually to a member of the Delaware baseball team.
