James Richards, Distinguished Professor of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences, was named associate dean of the College of Health and Nursing Sciences, effective Sept. 1. He succeeds Pamela Beeman, associate professor of nursing, who has returned to the faculty.
The director of the Biomechanics Laboratory and former director of the Interdisciplinary Program in Biomechanics and Movement Science, Richards conducts research on sport biomechanics and rehabilitation biomechanics. He earned his master’s degree at UD and a doctoral degree from Indiana University and joined the CHNS faculty in 1980.
Also this academic year, the College has welcomed several new faculty and staff members. They include Tim DeSchriver, assistant professor of health, nutrition and exercise sciences, and Leslie Allshouse, CHNS ’83, BE ’91M, CHEP ’02M, instructor in medical technology.
DeSchriver, who teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in sport management, is a member of the North American Society for Sport Management and serves as a member of the society’s Executive Council. His research interests include sport finance, economics and marketing, specifically in the areas of collegiate athletics and professional sports. He is co-author of the textbook Sport Finance and has published numerous journal articles.
Allshouse teaches courses in phlebotomy and in information technologies and communication skills and helps teach a clinical chemistry lab. She also is coordinator of the students’ affiliate practicums at various off-campus sites. Before joining UD, she worked for 21 years at Christiana Care Health System in immunohematology.
Other new CHNS employees are Elaine Burkett, coordinator of the College’s new nursing simulation lab and a registered nurse who has worked in numerous clinical settings with a concentration in cardiology, and Monica Tadler, CHNS ’79, lab coordinator in the Department of Medical Technology, who oversees student labs in such areas as molecular diagnostics, immunology and serology.
Also joining the College this year are Rachel Strickland, financial manager in the CHNS dean’s office; Diane Klonowski, administrative assistant in medical technology; Jean Anderson, senior secretary in health, nutrition and exercise sciences; and Debra Morris, senior secretary in medical technology.
