Connections to the Colleges

New faculty members and professionals join CHNS

New faculty members in the College this fall include Thomas W. Kaminski and Diane Oliver, both in the Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences; Paula Melancon in the Department of Medical Technology; Kathleen Brewer-Smyth, Sandra E. Elliott, Allen V. Prettyman, Ingrid Pretzer-Aboff, Kathleen A. Riley-Lawless and Deborah W. Wilson, all in the Department of Nursing; and Richard Micun in the Division of Special Programs.

Kaminski is an associate professor of health, nutrition and exercise sciences and director of the department's Athletic Training Education Program. He came to UD from the Department of Sports Medicine and Athletic Training at Southwest Missouri State University.

Oliver, CHNS '96, who is the dietetic internship supervisor, earned her master's degree in public health from Temple University. Her specialty is community education.

Melancon is a laboratory coordinator in medical technology whose area of expertise is hematology. She previously worked as a medical technologist for Christiana Care Health Services.

Brewer-Smyth, assistant professor of nursing, joined CHNS from the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her doctoral degree. She is a certified rehabilitation registered nurse.

Elliott, an instructor in nursing, is a certified nurse midwife. She has a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Prettyman, also an instructor in nursing, has a master's degree from Wilmington College and previously was preventive medical services coordinator at Christiana Care. He is a certified family nurse practitioner.

Pretzer-Aboff has a master's degree from New York University. She joined CHNS as an instructor in nursing.

Riley-Lawless, assistant professor of nursing, previously was a pediatric nurse practitioner at the Du Pont Hospital for Children. She has a doctoral degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Wilson, also an assistant professor of nursing, joined the College from Dillard University in New Orleans. She earned her doctor of nursing science degree at Louisiana State University.

Micun, a registered nurse and paramedic, is a special programs recruitment officer.
