A valiant soldier
Retired Army Col. Paul W. Hamblin, AG '43, of Atlanta, has been inducted into the Infantry Officer's Candidate School Hall of Fame at Fort Benning, Ga. Shown here with his wife, Sylvia, Hamblin was honored for "exceptional leadership and unprecedented dedication to public service." Hamblin, who also was inducted in the Fightin' Blue Hen Battalion Hall of Heroes in 1997, was commissioned a second lieutenant upon his graduation from the University. As a qualified parachutist who made 105 jumps during his career, he served in Europe in World War II, in Korea and in Vietnam--where he was wounded during a Viet Cong attack on a military installation in Pleiku in 1965. During his 28 years of service, he received a silver star and two bronze stars for valor and a purple heart. After retiring from the military, he founded and operated a transportation training company and is currently a training and safety consultant to automotive and heavy vehicle fleets.
