Outstanding needs:

A new center for the arts is the University's highest priority for addition to its physical plant. The proposed new center would address several needs, including classroom and practice space in the Amy E. du Pont Music Building, a second performance space for the Professional Theatre Training Program and practice and instrument storage space for UD's Marching Band.

The College also continues to seek funds to increase active learning opportunities--summer stipends and supplemental funds for students to engage in undergraduate research, career-testing internships, service learning and study abroad.

Funds are needed to encourage and support the ongoing efforts of faculty to keep current in their disciplines and in the craft of teaching.

Academic enrichment funds allow the College to bring visiting scholars, artists and performers to campus to supplement and enrich the University's academic and cultural life and to support student participation in appropriate conferences and field trips.

Another area of need is for capital equipment funds, to ensure that students and faculty are working with up-to-date tools and technologies in their fields of endeavor. Current instructional equipment needs include a Geographic Information Systems lab for geography and related disciplines; television studio equipment for the communication department; an array of instruments for the music department; kilns and other items for the art department; and a laser capture micro-dissection unit for bioimaging in the biological sciences department.
