At the University's Board of Trustees semiannual meeting in December, Mary Jane Willis of Smyrna, Del.; Thomas J. Burns of Dover, Del., BE '74; and Jacquelyn Owens Wilson of Frankford, Del., were elected new trustees.
Willis (left) holds a bachelor's degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a master's degree from West Virginia University and has 14 years' experience in public education as a guidance counselor, a cooperative training coordinator and a teacher of gifted students. Among her many community and public service positions, she currently serves as state chair of the U.S. Special Olympics Committee, director of the Schwartz Center for the Arts and a member of the preliminary investigatory committee of the Delaware Court of the Judiciary.
Burns, who with his wife, Terry Ellis, owns Burns & Ellis Realtors, has served as president of the Kent County Association of Realtors and as director-at-large of the Delaware Association of Realtors. He is also Kent County director of Trend, a regional, multiple-listing organization. Past president and a member of the board of trustees of Kent School in Chestertown, Md., Burns currently serves as vice chair of the board of Bayhealth Medical Center.
Wilson, (right) who holds bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Salisbury State University and a doctorate in education from Wilmington College, is principal at Lord Baltimore Elementary School in Indian River School District in Ocean View. She also is an adjunct professor at UD and Wilmington College. She was appointed by Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner to a Department of Education task force and by former Gov. Thomas Carper to the Professional Standards Board.
