Allmond
Charles Allmond, AG '53, '57M, sculpts in stone and wood, finding inspiration in the natural world. His style ranges from realistic to abstract and his subjects from wildlife to religious icons. Allmond, who practiced law for 30 years before turning completely to sculpture, has exhibited his sculptures in the U.S., Canada, Japan and Sweden. Frazer
Christine Frazer, AS '56, is a portrait and figure painter who works primarily in pastels. Her work has won awards and honors in numerous exhibitions along the East Coast. Meyer
David Meyer, AS '96M, creates art "happenings," using steel, glass, earth, various objects and time in his sculptures. His three-dimensional works uniquely explore the world around us, raising questions about the universe. Meyer is an assistant professor at the University of Delaware and head exhibition designer for the University Gallery. Barkley
Teresa Barkley, CHEP '78, considers her quilt art to be fiber collage. Her quilts are machine pieced, hand appliquéd, machine or hand quilted using heat transferred images and a combination of old and new fabrics such as printed feed sacks, linen children's books, old lace, canvas money bags and commemorative handkerchiefs. Her prize-winning quilts have been widely exhibited and one, entitled, Blue and White Plates: The American Dream, from her postage stamp design series, was designed and made for an invitational exhibition in Sydney, Australia, during the Summer Olympics. Blum
Cheri Blum, AS '91, finds grace and beauty in age. Her oil paintings, on canvas, panel or unusual surfaces like linen, reflect this love of antiquity. Blum's style is characterized by calm lines and the simple shapes of nature painted on surfaces that give her paintings the look of delicate aging. She is a full time artist and illustrator whose work is distributed by the Wild Apple art licensing company as designs for wallcoverings, fine linens and home fashions.
Rosetta
Rosetta (Jan Rosetta Schockner), AS '67, molds the sleek, hard-edged, sensitive yet powerful forms of cats into "a study in fluid motion." Her bronze sculptures appear realistic but, at the same time, they embody the concepts of power, nobility and beauty in nature. Her work can be seen at the entrance to the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, Hewlett-Packard in Loveland, Colo., American Stores' headquarters in Salt Lake City and Alden Vineyard in the Alexander Valley, Calif. Daiber
Steven C. Daiber, AS '78, is a book artist whose work is inspired by his daily observations of nature. His book art evolved from painting rural and urban landscapes to working with the materials he collected while painting to using woodcuts and, ultimately, paper. Daiber says his awareness of life's omnipresent variety, as well as his view that man has divorced himself from the ecological forces that sustain him, provide the impetus for his work. McLaughlin
Donald McLaughlin, AS '78, paints brilliant, vibrant colors and shapes that are both abstract and familiar. He and his wife, Teresa Barkley, and their two sons, live in New Jersey, where McLaughlin teaches painting at Kean University and travels to Manhattan to interview celebrities for a syndicated radio program. Maria Keane, AS '94, uses hand-struck prints and watercolor monotypes to conjure textural impressions of intimate interiors and mirror images that reach beyond reality.
