Alumni Club events

The Rehoboth Beach Country Club was the gathering site April 20 for UD alumni and friends in southern Delaware. After a brief presentation, President David Roselle introduced Mike Brey, head coach of the men's basketball team, who updated the group with information on the Blue Hen basketball program.

The Triangle Area Alumni Club hosted a UD Night April 13 in Chapel Hill, N.C. More than 20 alumni from the region met to share memories of their days at UD. The group included recent graduates who are attending graduate school in the area and others who have made North Carolina their home.

It was a beautiful night in Charlotte, N.C., when nearly 30 UD alumni and friends gathered April 12. Class years from the 1950s to 1999 were represented.

UD alumni, parents and friends gathered April 5 at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington, Del., for the annual Battle of the Blues, when the Blue Hen baseball team takes on the Wilmington Blue Rocks, a Class A advanced affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Before the game, guests enjoyed dinner in the Blue Rocks Café. Unfortunately, the Blue Hens lost, 5-2.

More than 300 UD alumni, friends and future Blue Hens from the New Castle County (Del.) Alumni Club watched the Sesame Street Live production of When I Grow Up at the Bob Carpenter Center March 31 and April 1. Before the performances, alumni and their guests met with many of their favorite Sesame Street characters, including Elmo, Grover, Cookie Monster, Bert and Ernie.

President and Mrs. David Roselle hosted more than 30 UD alumni, parents and friends from the Washington, D.C., area at the Cosmos Club March 23. Roselle spoke to the group about exciting changes on the UD campus and updated everyone on the success of the current capital campaign.

On March 21, nearly 100 alumni and friends attended an alumni lecture and reception hosted by the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy in the Trabant Unversity Center. Roberta Golinkoff, H. Rodney Sharp Professor of Education, discussed her research on acquiring language. Golinkoff and her book, How Babies Talk: The Magic and Mystery of Language in the First Three Years of Life, have been featured on ABC's Good Morning America and National Public Radio.

More than 50 alumni and friends joined South Florida Alumni Club coordinator Cyndy Houck '77 March 16 at the Rustic Inn in Fort Lauderdale. Guests were treated to an authentic blue crab feast. Some alumni recalled enjoying steamed crabs when living in the Delaware area. For others, this was the first time they had tried this distinctly Maryland-Delaware delicacy.

Ed Williamson '87, coordinator of the Jacksonville Area Alumni Club, hosted more than 20 Florida-based UD alumni March 15. The group met at Jock's and Jill's Sports Grill at the Jacksonville Riverwalk.

The newly opened ESPN Zone in Atlanta was the scene of an
alumni gathering March 14. Graduates from the 1950s to the 1990s shared UD stories at the new sports club and restaurant.

Fifty Bay Area UD alumni gathered March 11 in San Francisco to meet other UD graduates who have relocated to the West Coast.

The Los Angeles Alumni Club met March 10 in Pasadena, Calif. Nearly 40 UD alumni attended the event, with at least one graduate from classes from the '40s to the '90s represented.

More than 20 UD alumni in the San Diego vicinity gathered March 9 on Coronado Island, sharing Delaware experiences.
