UD is ranked second in the nation of "America's 100 Most Wired Colleges," according to an article in the May issue of Yahoo! Internet Life magazine. Last year, UD was ranked 35th.

According to the article, "Undergraduates are as interested in a college's net resources as in its curriculum or social life."

UD is ranked second among universities and research schools with a survey score of 88.88, only .27 behind the number-one ranked Carnegie Mellon University, which has a score of 89.15 of a possible 100. Other members of the top 10, in order, are the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Indiana University, Dartmouth College, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the University of Virginia, Washington State University and the University of California at Los Angeles.

The survey data was collected online by Peterson's, a print and online provider of education information. Four main areas were covered:

• access and infrastructure, including percentage of recent computer buys, wired classrooms and dorms;
  
  
• administrative services, including ability to apply, register for classes and access grade reports online;
  
  
• general resources, including amount of web space guaranteed to students and library resources; and
  
  
• student support, including tech support available to students, Internet orientation and equipment for persons with disabilities.

Three thousand-plus accredited undergraduate two- and four-year institutions of higher education were invited to participate in this year's survey.
