Asakusa Movie Street, 1980s |
The three main connected movie theaters of Asakusa (the Asakusa Shôchiku is visible here) still exist today, one of the only remnants of the area's glory days as Tokyo's premier modernized sakariba. Now the top youth-oriented entertainment action is at station hub areas in western Tokyo: Shibuya, Shinjuku, Harajuku, each with its own character, atmosphere, and clientale type. Asakusa still teems, however, with tourists of the past. |
