Kaomise Day in Front of the Ichimura-za, circa 1840

In the left foreground is the Ichimura-za, replete with its own kido geisha out front under the indigo canopy attracting patrons. The tall banners--much like the sumo wrestler banners from Ryôgoku--advertize the star actors. The orange banner announces Ichikawa Danjûrô (probably the VI or VII) while the indigo one on the left is for Ichikawa Ebizô (probably the V or VI). The row of building on the right are puppet theaters, another popular form of stage entertainment in Edo Japan. Now wander back down to the Nakamura-za to buy a door pass.
