Yakatabune, yanebune, and chokibune crowd the waters around the bridge to view the annual "opening of the river" fireworks and catch a cool evening breeze. Teahouses along the riverbank provide onboard refreshments as chokibune shuttle food and drink from shore to pleasure boats. Two rival outfits competed to provide the firework shows.
