Requirements For Admission

Entrance to the program is only by appointment as a Winterthur Fellow. Up to ten M.A. fellowships are awarded each year. Fellowships are jointly funded by the University of Delaware and the Lois F. McNeil endowment at Winterthur. These two-year fellowships cover all tuition costs and provide an annual stipend of approximately $12,000.

Winterthur Fellows come from a variety of undergraduate backgrounds, including art history, history, literature, folklore, and American studies. Demonstrated interest and/or experience in museum or historical agency work is desirable but not required.

Application for the program and a Winterthur Fellowship can be made only through the Winterthur Program Office. All application materials must be received by January 15 of the year for which admission is desired. Applications must include transcripts, letters of recommendation, a writing sample and GRE scores. Details on the writing sample and GRE tests as well as specific instructions for completing application materials are included in the application packet that will be mailed upon request.
