Technology Demonstration Page

The following pages are meant to demonstrate the kinds of technologies that are available for use on the web.  The emphasis in these pages is on content, not cosmetics, so while some of the stuff I'm doing might not be so visually appealing, you should be able to get a sense for what's possible on the web.  Taking care of the cosmetic stuff later is not such a big deal.

The first thing to note is the "last updated" line at the beginning of the page.  Including a "last updated" line in your page is relatively easy using the JavaScript scripting language.  The "last updated" line let's students know if the page has changed since the last time they visited.  To see how to do it use the view document source option and look at the code between the <script> and </script> containers.

Example 1:  The Present Value / Future Value Converter
What we have below is an interactive applet that can either convert a single future payment into its present value, or convert a present value into a future value.  To use the applet you just enter either a present value or future value, the number of periods, and the interest rate (%).  Then you select what type of conversion you want to do, i.e., future value to present value or vice versa.  Finally, you click on the "Convert" button and the converted value shows up in the appropriate text box. The interactivity that's possible using applets is a pretty big jump forward for the web.  I wrote the applet in Java using the Visual Café IDDE from Symantec.
