Amy Sebring, EIIP Technical Projects Coordinator, presented the November 24 Tech Arena session on TeamWave Workplace as a follow up to a recent session on various Internet tools. (See transcript for 11/16/99.) Amy described the software under discussion as useful for setting up a meeting place for a group or "virtual community." Not only can you do text chat, you can share information through various other tools that Amy demonstrated for the audience.

Amy also explained that using TeamWave requires downloading and installing the client software, and the main problem will be firewalls. Further information about firewalls can be found on the TeamWave Web site, which is located at <http://www.teamwave.com>.

Amy Sebring has been instrumental in the development of the Emergency Information Infrastructure Partnership for the past two years, first as a volunteer, and currently as its Technical Projects Coordinator. She has played a key role in the design and maintenance of the EIIP Virtual Forum Web site and the Red River Disaster Information Network and in the development of the application of "live chat" technology for the purpose of professional development and networking in the broader emergency management/disaster response community.

She was previously employed as an Emergency Information Specialist for the City of Corpus Christi, Texas Emergency Management Office, and is active in local, regional and national professional associations. She has been involved with applying information technologies in a variety of previous positions, and was a Chat Room host as early as the mid-eighties.

TEAMWAVE DEMO

Following the presentation, an actual live demonstration of the TeamWave Workplace software will take place at 1:00 PM Eastern. If you would like to see the software, but cannot make it at that time, follow the directions below and contact Amy Sebring, asebring@emforum.org to arrange for another time.

1. Requirements: You will need to download and install the Workplace client beta. If you are behind a firewall, you will need to arrange for access to Port 6577.
   
   
2. Download and install the Workplace 4.3 version 3 Client Beta for your platform from http://www.teamwave.com/beta/index.html (approximately 2.4 meg).
   
   
3. Send an email to asebring@emforum.org to request access. Receive your username and password via email.
   
   
4. Start TeamWave Workplace. TeamWave server name is demo.teamwave.com (default). Change port number to 6577. Click Connect button.
   
   
5. On next screen, enter your username and password, (leave other fields blank) and click on Login button.
   
   
6. You will be entering the Lobby. Wait there for further info.
