How parents and families can help

Campus Thank you for taking an interest in your student's career development process. Many parents & family members are eager to learn what Career Services has to offer their students. Some want to know how they can assist their students with career development concerns. Others want to know where they can find current information on "hot" jobs and salaries. At Career Services, we believe that the ideal combination for future success consists of parents and families providing support and encouragement, while empowering their student to take responsibility for their own career exploration and decision making process. In order to enhance the parents and families' ability to assist their student, the Career Services Center has compiled a list of suggestions for students to bulid a strong foundation for career success.

Throughout each school year Career Services provides opportunities for community members, particularly alumni, to get involved. As a parent or family member this may be a rewarding chance to invest in their student, as well as other students interested in similar career fields. Each year, nearly 4000 University of Delaware graduates leave campus and enter the job market or pursue further education. For the 80% seeking employment, this transition can be a daunting task. UD Families can help!

Directions from the North and South: Take I-95 to Delaware Exit #1, Route 896 North. Continue North on Route 896 which becomes South College Avenue (do not turn left at Route 896 and Route 4) and takes you to campus. Turn right from South College Avenue onto East Park Place. Turn left at the next light onto Academy Street. The Career Services Center will be on your right (401 Academy Street). Enter Career Service through the white enclosure.


Parking available in the Perkins Parking Garage adjacent to Career Services: Enter the parking garage at the driveway between the Career Services Center and the Perkins Student Center.

Special Hotel Rate Available for Families: The Courtyard Newark at the University of Delaware is a Marriott hotel owned by the University of Delaware and run by students from the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management. Special rate also available at Embassy Suites. Employers should ask for the “UD-related rate”. Information about the hotel is at
