Here is a brief guide on how to prepare for the midterm exam on Wednesday 10/3/2007 - Study your lecture notes - Study the quiz and practice questions (available on the course web page) - Review the lab assignments. - Refer to the MATLAB and UNIX books and the reading list as needed. There will be factual/informational questions as well as application/problem questions in the midterm exam. For instance, fact/information questions can be similar to - What does 'what' command do? - What is the name of the Unix shell command to change your current directory? - Give 2 similarities and 2 differences between the function and script M-files. application/problem questions can be like similar to the problems in the quizzes, the practice questions, and the lab assignments. In particular, you will be asked to write small MATLAB codes, modify an existing MATLAB code piece, understand/show how a MATLAB code piece works. It is usually more effective to work in pairs or within a study group. So, I would encourage you to find a study partner (friend) from the class to work for the exam together, if you can. hope all these tips help you learn the subject deeply !! :). all the best, ilknur Aydin
