The Truth with Jeff Johnson:
What's Next for Black America

Jeff Johnson is a social activitist, political strategist, inspirational speaker, and architect for social change. Upon graduation from the University of Toledo, Johnson became Director of the NAACP's Youth & College Division, and later, Vice President for Russell Simmons' Hip Hop Summit Action Network. Johnson furthered his reputation as a positive force among youth & young adults through his politically conscious television personality, "Cousin Jeff" on BET's Rap City, and later Jeff Johnson Chronicles, which he hosted and produced. As a journalist, Johnson has interviewed Barack Obama & Hillary Clinton, and The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. Jeff Johnson is the only American reporter to receive an exclusive interview with the continent of Africa's first female head of state & Liberia's first elected female president, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. Johnson currently serves as host of another show on BET, The Truth with Jeffrey Johnson, and tours the country spreading his leadership advice and passion for activism.

Favela Rising- Film

Sunday, November 9th
7:30 pm, Trabant Theater

FAVELA RISING depicts the development of the Afro-Reggae movement in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), created by Anderson Sa, a former drug-trafficker. Through hip-hop music, the rhythms of the street, and Afro-Brazilian dance, he rallies his community to counteract violent oppression enforced by teenage drug armies and sustained by corrupt police.   Jeff Zimbalist (director) will lead a discussion following the film.

Study Tip of the Week:  Use things like outlines, charts, or flashcards to help you organize and learn new material. You’ll be reviewing the material while you are making these tools, and you’ll have them to use later when it’s time to study for tests.

Employment/Scholarship Opportunities

UD undergraduate students are invited to apply for the David A. Plastino Scholars Program in the College of Arts and Sciences by Friday, February 27th. The program awards up to four scholarships each year, with the amount of the award varying up to $6,000, depending on the nature of the proposed experience.
