University of Delaware Athletics Media Relations
For many students, sports and sporting events made up a vital part of their University of Delaware experience. Introduced to Delaware in 1889, football is one of the oldest and best loved of the more than twenty intercollegiate sports played at UD. Delaware's initial football teams played on any field the teams could find and mark for the game, before moving to Frazer Field, just northeast of Old College, in 1913. Since 1952, The Fightin' Blue Hens have drawn fans to games at Delaware Stadium, which has undergone a number of renovations and expansions.
