The Twains Meet: American Statisticians in China

In May 1998 Dr. Buck was one of eighteen members of the American
Statistical Association who visited China for a series of
professional exchanges as part of the People to People
International Citizen Ambassador Program. the American delegates,
representing academia, business, and the government, met with
representatives from several universities and statistical bureaus
in five Chinese cities over a twelve-day period.
In her talk, Dr. Buck will recount some of the meetings the group had with Chinese statisticians and administrators, highlighting similarities and differences between the application of statistics in our country and China.
